Scouting Report
College Park Skyhawks:
Date: November 13, 2024
Team: College Park Skyhawks Vs 905 Raptors
Scout: Daeshaun Brathwaite
Dominick Barlow
Body/Athleticism
Barlow is listed as 6’8 and weighs 215 pounds. He is not quick, but he moves well enough for a wing player. He is not weight strong, but I don’t think the weight is much of a concern.
Shooting:
The mechanics of the shot are fine. He has a little funky flick of the wrist when he releases it. The shooting has improved. Last year he shot only 30 percent from last year. In short sample size, he is shooting 60 percent from three. He has also made his free throws so far. Obviously those numbers are not substantial, but there is a confidence when he shoots that he knows the shot is going in.
Position/Offense
Barlow mainly plays off the ball. He has a good touch around the rim. For this team, he is playing more like a small ball five by setting more screens and rolling to the basket. He has a good instinct to cut and give teammates passing angels. He feels confident pushing the ball and running a fast break. Barlow has good footwork around the post and creates enough separation to shoot over bigger defenders.
Defense/Rebounding
Barlow is a solid defender. He is a disciplined defender around the post by not biting off pump fakes. Barlow does a good job guarding the rim vertically. He is a good rebounder for a wing player. He averaged close to eight rebounds per game last year, and so far he is averaging over double digit rebounds per game this season.
Miscellaneous
He plays with good effort. Talking to him he seems like a humble guy and does whatever it takes to get better. He let the game come to him and plays well within the confines of the team.
Overall Rating:
Barlow is a solid player with good offensive skills and instincts. He is an above average defender. He has a chance to be a good rotation player for the Hawks.
Jarkel Joiner
Body/Athleticism:
Joiner is listed as 6’1 and they weigh him at 181. I think he might be bigger than 181. He looks more 190 to me. He is a good athlete and has a quick first step.
Shooting:
Joiner’s have improved from last season to this season. He is more confident shooting threes off the dribble. He is shooting 45 percent from three, and making 3 threes per game this season.
Position/Offense:
Joiner is the floor general for this team. He is not a traditional point guard, but he does well enough in distributing because he is constantly beating his man off the dribble and forcing the help and getting the opposing team in rotation.
Defense/Rebounding
Joiner is a good rebounder for a guard. He is averaging close to six per game. In the perimeter, he does a good job fighting off screens and getting back to the ball handler.
Miscellaneous:
This is my first time watching him, it seemed like the guys like playing with him. Seems like a good teammate. The speed is what stands out the most. In tonight’s game, none of the defenders could stay in front of him.
Overall Player Rating:
I think Joiner is a good player. I’m not sure he is a floor general on a good offense. I think he can still be a solid contributor to a team that prioritizes speed and transition opportunities. I think adding the three point shot off the dribble to his game is going to make him even more of a dynamic player.
Joey Hauser
Body/Athleticism
Joey Hauser is listed at 6’9 and weighs 230 pounds. He is not a great athlete, but I would not consider him a bad athlete. I think he is more in the middle.
Shooting:
Even though he struggled with his shot tonight, shooting is Joey Hauser greatest strength. He has shot over 40 percent from three since his in college at Michigan State. His shooting mechanics and release is similar to his brother Boston Celtics forward Sam Houser.
Defense/Rebounding
I would say he is an average rebounder. He is not a bad defender, but teams are still going to hunt him out in the perimeter.
Position/Offense
Joey Hauser is there to space the floor as a shooter. I would like to see him do more movement without the ball. He did not feel comfortable putting the ball on the floor except for one possession off a close out.
Player Rating:
I think Hauser could be a good rotation player like his brother. The shooting is real. He is an average defender, which is fine. Teams are going to hunt him, but I thought it did a decent job sliding his feet and keeping his man in front of him. He needs to be more comfortable putting the ball on the floor and making plays and attacking closeouts.
